My name is Blair Steele, I live in Mercer, Pa (about an hour north of Pittsburgh). I am heavily involved in my county’s 4H program, where I serve as President of my horse club along with many other clubs in my county. I love to show western pleasure, western horsemanship, trail, showmanship, and working ranch horse. This past summer I have participated in 4H shows along with open shows, where I showed in western classes as well as some english classes. I have ridden horses since I was seven years old and received my first horse when I was only ten. I have showed my 25 year old quarter horse mare for three years, in which we placed 4th at districts our first year. Soon after I retired my old mare I inherited a 14 year old quarter horse mare named Breezy. When I received Breezy, she was severely off balanced and could hardly canter. After working really hard with cantering and horsemanship, we achieved first place at districts and advanced onto the state competition, in which we placed 7th overall in our class. Since then, my horse and I have competed and won at local and 4H shows. I also had the wonderful opportunity to organize and participate in the PA Level 1 Horsemanship Skills testing, and IEA.
Interscholastic Equestrian Association, further known as IEA, is an organization in which students from all over the U.S. get to show and compete in horsemanship. IEA is a wonderful program in which I accredit most of my skills that I use in everyday riding. I have competed for two years. While competing in my second year I advanced onto zones where I placed eighth out of 24 riders. Over the years in the horse industry I have meet new people, accomplished many goals, and overwhelmingly fell in love with horses.
